THERE LIVED A RACE CALLED MANKIND...
Fragmented pieces and
shattered ties – this is what is left of what was once called humanity. Broken
in the name of religion, divided in the name of ethnicity mankind is now a
caricature of its own self. 21ST century promises to be an age of
development, an era of technological boom and socio-political escalation. The
golden hands of development has brushed even some of the remote interiors of the
globe, the major contribution is that of electricity -lighting up houses that
has been dark for ages.
However the darkness
that prevails in the minds of people has not escaped. There has been a great
evolution of mankind from those barbaric early man days to today’s present
sophisticated world. The day has come when man has surpassed all other beings
but in this process of evolution a section of the crowd has become a race of
hungry blood-sucking mongrels.
The values of love,
compassion, sympathy that stands as the touchstones of the race called mankind
has become a thing of the past to that extent that man now dithers not to kill
another man.
Some of the recent
incidents of the past have thrown light into this darker aspect of mankind
where the humanity in human beings is extinct.
The mass killing of
innocent school children in Pakistan by a group of miscreants will go down as
one of the most horrifying and shameful incidents where humanity has being
replaced by brutality. The blood of innocent children flows down the streets of
Pakistan and their estranged cries haunt the air-cries that were once of mirth
and laughter have become screams of terror. Families have been dumped into
alleys of darkness and depression, shrouded by bereavement. And all these done
by none other than man himself-man who has raised arms in his hands and has
been blinded by the flame of contempt, loathe and revenge, who failed to see
the twinkling eyes of those young hearts, the endless dreams in them. Brutalism
is not the answer to any query but man has lost the power to reason, so being
animated in his selfish quest.
Also recently the
ethnic clashes in the beautiful valley of Assam that has ravaged the valley
into a war field where innocent lives are taken for no good. The Brahamaputra
flows red with the blood of the innocent victims. North East has reported many
cases of militant activities and riots in the past however this by far is the
most atrocious and brutal of all, where man has been shot dead in his own
backyard. The image of a woman clinging on to her children, one of them an
infant-all shot dead is doing the rounds in the television screen. This image
is a portrait of the fact that man has killed every trace of humanity in him.
Assam that once so
proudly claimed to be the motherland of various ethnic tribes and caste, is now
shredded into pieces by her own sons. The fact that was once to be cherished
has now become a nightmare for all.
Divided on the grounds
of religion, caste and creed, man has forgotten that “I AM A HUMAN BEING first
rather than I AM A HINDU or a MUSLIM or ASSAMESE or TAMIL. In me runs the blood
of a saviour-a saviour of nature, my fellow beings not that of a cruel slaughterer.”
In today’s disturbed
world where humanity is on the brim of existence, the voice of
Dr. Bhupen Hazarika
rings loud in one’s ears:
“If man
does not think of another man with a little compassion , who else will do so?
If man himself cannot be human,
it is impossible for devil to be human
And if devil himself turns
human it is a shame to the human race.”
